The Green Tech Crowd Inc donate over 50 laptops to worthy causes across Australia and Asia since 2017
The Green Tech Crowd Inc (“GreenTech”), a local Northern Beaches IT organisation has donated over 30 laptops and computers in 2018 to charities and worthwhile causes across Thailand, Cambodia, Zimbabwe, Bali, Uganda and Australia. To organisations such as Second Chance Bangkok (www.scbkk.org), PSE Foundation (www.pse.ngo), Sydney Homeless Connect (www.sydneyhomelessconnect.com), Single Mums Lighthouse (www.smslighthouse.org.au), School for Life Foundation (www.schoolforlife.org.au), Green Island Vision (www.greenislandvision.org), Mosman Girl Guides and Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter (www.manlywomensshelter.org.au) have all benefited from GreenTech’s innovative and original IT refurbishment and regeneration giving program.
After leaving a career in print and sports advertising, Lee Wainwright joined an IT start-up business based in Sydney and soon became engrossed in all things computer related. However, it wasn’t until one morning at a 6am hot yoga class that Lee formulated a new business idea on his yoga mat; one that could make a difference to people’s lives through the regeneration and refurbishment of redundant and unwanted IT equipment. Over the next 3 months, while travelling in Asia, Lee developed his business plan, built his first website and started to connect with companies regarding their unwanted and soon to be scrapped IT equipment. It was during this time that Lee made his first donations to two outstanding organisations in Thailand; Second Chance Bangkok, a local initiative by residents of Bangkok’s largest slum, Klong Toey, and a school in Phnom Penh known as the PSE Foundation.
On his return to Sydney, Lee continued to progress GreenTech’s giving program by donating more IT equipment to Sydney based organisations. Diana Jenkins, from Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter, was delighted with the recent support received from GreenTech.
“The IT donations received from Green Tech Crowd Inc has helped our operations department stay confidently connected and ready to support and service our local community.
Ethical organisations such as Green Tech Crowd Inc really do make a difference and go the extra mile in supporting causes such as the Northern Beaches Women’s Shelter” said Diana.
In the last month GTCI Founder, Lee Wainwright, completed an overseas trip, making 3 donation stops throughout Asia. Lee said “the final tally of over 29 laptop donations to 8 worthwhile causes across 4 countries is something I’m really proud of. And this is only the start! I have plans to expand GreenTech’s giving program to help many more organisations across Australia and Asia. I would love to talk to more businesses about what they do with their old IT equipment and make sure more can be saved from landfill and put to good use”.
